The BTT Jiu-jitsu - Nun's Island dojo was designed to offer the youth of our community the opportunity to discover the benefits of the practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which provides physical and psychological techniques to strengthen the self-confidence of children, but also of adults.
Our project's objective is to set-up of a space dedicated to the practice and teaching of martial arts, where boys and girls can be introduced to Jiu-Jitsu as of 6 years old.
Individuals of all ages can learn through games and practices. It is envisioned as a place where residents of our community can meet new people in a healthy and stimulating environment.
Our main mission is to offer the youth of Nun's Island community and its surroundings, the practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as a martial art applicable to self-defence in a real-life situation. Unfortunately, intimidation, violence and bullying are problems in our community. Kids who practice BJJ develop the self-confidence to roam in their surroundings without fear. In addition, continuous training helps the youth tone the muscles and be in good physical shape in order to be better prepared to protect themselves, mentally and physically.
Children, for example, can take down a larger aggressor without hurting them. Our vision is to have a large dojo of at least one thousand square feet, where the youth feel comfortable attending. We plan to have a part of the tatami dedicated to equipment for strength and cardiovascular training. We also plan on having a waiting room for parents who bring their children to class and accommodating a cafeteria. The idea is to make it a pleasant place for everyone. We want to make Jiu-Jitsu more accessible to the upcoming generation of Verdun and its surroundings, and provide our community with the hours and services necessary to make Jiu-Jitsu a daily activity.
